Should You Get a Waterproof or Water Resistant Cover?
It might sound the same, but there are differences. Waterproof materials offer complete protection because they either have sealed ridges or are taped. Thus, the water cannot enter in any way. Water resistant covers on the other hand can just prevent the water from going in somewhat. The water can still get in if there is a big downpour.
So always opt for waterproof boat covers. The fabric used is breathable, meaning that, moisture will not get trapped between the fabric and the body of your vessel. This is very important because if the moisture gets trapped and if it stays there for long hours, then it can certainly damage the body of your boat. In time it will rust the body.
Water resistant materials are not breathable. They are durable and have repellant properties that can saturate or soak the water. But if there is too much water, then the material is not good enough, because naturally, there is a limit to how much it can soak.
Maintenance
Waterproof boat covers must be properly maintained as well. You need to wash the cover once in a while and dry it. You should also check from time to time to ensure that there is no tear or some other damage. Just take good care of it, and it will take good care of your boat.
